The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division is a 24 hour 7 day a week operation. The road patrol is responsible for enforcing the Iowa Motor Vehicle Laws, responding to calls including, accidents, fires, assaults, thefts, burglaries, civil issues and many other types of situations.
Deputies Assigned to the Road Patrol are initially required to go through 3 ½ months of supervised training. This is followed up by training that is required annually. Some Patrol Deputies have received special training to investigate Fires, Post Blast Investigations, Accidents, K-9 Handling, Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance and water rescue.
A Captain overseas the Road Patrol Division of the Sheriff’s Office which consists of:
Shift 1: 1 Sergeant and five (5) Deputies
Shift 2: 1 Sergeant and six (6) Deputies
Shift 3: 1 sergeant and five (5) Deputies
