The Dubuque County Sheriff’s office currently has 2 active accident investigators and 1 in training. Our investigators go through a minimum of 120 hours of specialized training from a forensics standpoint using clues and evidence left on the roadway during the course of the accident.
The main purpose of Accident Reconstruction is to determine what and how an accident occurred using measurements and equations to determine speed and other information relating to the accident. Our investigators typically work backwards to determine what happened prior to and during the actual physical crash. The main goal is to determine all contributing factors that lead to the proximate cause of the accident and accurately determine who is at fault for the accident.
