Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducts in depth investigations into major crimes that occur in Dubuque County. Investigators have received extensive training in crime scene processing, evidence handling, death investigations, and interview and interrogation. Among the crimes most frequently investigated by the division are sexual assaults, child and dependent adult abuse, burglary, arson, and financial crimes.

Investigators work closely with the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office as well as the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa in the preparation of cases for prosecution, and as such are expected to have extensive knowledge of the rules of evidence and search and seizure.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is an affiliate of the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (Iowa ICAC). For more information regarding Internet safety, please visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s website. You can report suspicious internet activity by using the Cyber Tip-line or by visiting the Iowa ICAC website.
